Heritage Minute: Anne Innis Dagg
We are thrilled! Historica Canada has released a new Heritage Minute honouring the extraordinary life and legacy of Dr. Anne Innis Dagg.
Known as the world’s first Western scientist to study giraffes in the wild, Anne’s groundbreaking research in South Africa in 1956 laid the foundation for all future studies on the natural history of giraffes. She authored the definitive book Giraffe: Its Biology, Behavior and Ecology (1976) and inspired generations as a scientist, feminist, and environmental advocate.
We are especially grateful to Historica Canada for shining a national spotlight on Anne’s story. This Heritage Minute ensures that Anne’s pioneering work and passion for wildlife will continue to inspire for years to come.
The Heritage Minutes collection is a bilingual series of history-focused public service announcements. Each 60-second short film depicts a significant person, event or story in Canadian history. First released in 1991, the Heritage Minutes have been shown on television, in cinemas and online. They have become a recognizable part of Canadian culture. historicacanada.ca
