Sponsor a Spot Campaign - Spotty the Giraffe

A giraffe-sized thank you to everyone that donated to the Sponsor a Spot campaign! 154 spots have been purchased for a total of $11,050 raised. The original goal was $5,000!!

A very special donation was received on behalf of Donna GAYLE Hamilton who peacefully passed away on August 12th, 2021 at the age of 59. Her friend Martha told her about Spotty the giraffe, which she could see from her apartment window. Gayle loved giraffes. She had previously fulfilled a lifelong wish to go to Africa and see them in the wild. She wanted to make a generous donation of $5,000 to the campaign, which left Anne and the foundation team deeply touched.

All proceeds from the campaign will go to African Wildlife Foundation's wildlife detection dog teams so that they can be trained to sniff out giraffe meat and products that are being trafficked within and out of Africa.

Giraffe numbers in the wild have plummeted due to poaching and habitat loss so there are now less than 70,000 giraffes - far less than elephants and chimpanzees. They need our help to survive as each one is precious!

Dr. Dagg, her son Ian, and daughter Mary, as well as members of the AID Foundation’s Junior Giraffe Club, helped to add the 154 spots over the summer months.

Spotty the giraffe continues to grab the attention of local residents in Waterloo, Ontario. Handmade by Dr. Anne Innis Dagg’s son Ian, and grandson Nick, they built the giraffe using repurposed materials contributed by Anne.
